Alianca, Belizia and Tinesia VISIT SOUTH AUSTRALIA - November 2022
During the two-week visit to SA, Tinesia, Belizia and Alianca spoke about the actions they are taking individually and collectively to promote gender equality, prevent sexual harassment and discrimination experienced by young women and especially young people living with a disability, and provide community-based nutrition education to address malnutrition in Timor-Leste.
The learning exchange took place through a variety of formal and informal activities, including:
As well there were many extracurricular activities including exploring some of the Flinders Ranges after meeting with 70 seasonal workers currently living in Port Augusta. Belizia, Tinesia and Alianca said that through this experience they gained new skills through preparing agendas, presentations and interactive discussions that engaged young people from various cultures. They also gained confidence from the way others responded to what they shared. They were very interested to see and hear about facilities and services for people living with disabilities, government regulated child protection, counselling services for those affected by sexual abuse, health and nutrition education in aboriginal communities and educational facilities at schools and universities. They were impressed by food safety and preservation standards and were awe-struck by seeing the results of long-term recycling efforts to maintain a rubbish free environment. This amazing experience was funded by the O'Sullivan Centre for Action, Analysis and Training. |
