Educating Young People about Good Nutrition

Through the Nutrisaun Diak, Futuru Diak project we learn how to prepare and cook fresh and nutritious food so that we can facilitate workshops for young people in Dili and in rural areas who do not have this information. The Nutrition Training Program develops our project management skills so that we could plan, prepare, implement and evaluate the Nutrition Workshops. Workshop and promotion materials were prepared using nutrition guidelines from the Ministry of Health and the World Health Organisation.
During 2022, 50 youth Nutrition Educators provided peer-education for young people, mainly young mothers in many communities in and around Dili. With funding from the World Health Organisation (WHO) educators worked with Nutritionists from the Municipality Health Service, community leaders and some NGOs to:
JDN educators also developed a Nutrition Toolkit to promote the messages in the Ministry of Health’s Food Based Dietary Guidelines including 8 interactive tools that are used in community-based education. On-line education during the COVID-19 State of Emergency on how to prepare nutritious meals reached over 12,000 young people through weekly FaceBook posts. |
