South Australia Visit by Aldo, Elga, Nelfia and romario, May 2019
A fantastic learning opportunity for four JDN members enabled them to participate in a two-week visit to South Australia in May 2019 where they talked about the lives of young people in Timor-Leste to students in the History, Geography, Society and Culture and Religion Classes at St. Aloysius College and Nazareth College. They also met people involved in projects related to JDN nutrition and employment priorities, had a cultural exchange with students from Tauondi Vocational College and explored the resources at Adelaide University. This opportunity was offered by the O'Sullivan Centre for Action, Analysis and Training, with funding from the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Adelaide Charitable Trust. John Bonnice, Chair of the O'Sullivan Centre met with Romario, Nelfia, Aldo and Elga, who are pictured (l-r) after presenting him with traditional tais from Timor-Leste.
Unfortunately the young people selected to go to Adelaide in May 2021 could not do so because of COVID-19 travel restrictions. They are now organising to meet online with young women from St Aloysius College to discuss some common issues and actions young people in each country are taking to respond to these issues.
